That is a truly odd-sounding statement from Fields Medalist Terence Tao: "Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done."

And Peter Gostev gave a wonderful reply: what’s next? Doctors complaining that too many medical breakthroughs are being published thanks to AI?

To be clear: any genuine and sound insight gained through AI carries a moral imperative to be published immediately. We must move forward; we must overcome all human shortcomings and not let scientific breakthroughs be slowed down by demands for validation. Humanity is more important than any single discipline.

Terry Tao: "Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done.[...] Mathematicians have a particular vision of progress that is informed by history and field-specific considerations." Imagine 2030, OpenAI drops 700+ papers on medical research. Medical establishment: "Doctors did not ask for this work to be done. We have a particular vision of progress and how dear they cure hundreds of diseases our stamp of approval.
