李佳琦直播间一分钱卖通义办公AI,难让办公AI成为大众习惯
A One-Cent Livestream Does Not Make Office AI a Mass Habit
NextFin News — China’s biggest shopping festival has a long tradition of turning abstract tech into something a host can count down. This year the prop was “tokens.” In the livestream room of Li Jiaqi—one of China’s best-known live-commerce hosts, whose sales segments can move enormous volumes in minutes—a Qwen Office trial membership listed at 28 yuan cleared at a single cent. Organizers tallied on the order of 100,000 cards in roughly thirty minutes, then restated the haul as trillions of tokens for the social feed.
Qwen Office is Alibaba’s productivity-oriented AI product for document and desk work, built around the group’s Qwen models. Packaging a short membership as a “token” mountain made the segment easy to share. It did not create a clean read on whether people will pay full price for office AI.
Buyers received a brief window of membership-style access—credits and rights aimed at drafting, sorting, and similar tasks—not a transferable vault of cloud API tokens in the sense engineers bill by. A checkout price of 0.01 yuan is closer to a giveaway than a purchase. At that level, duplicate accounts and bargain hunting are routine. Treating unit sales as unique, loyal subscribers would flatter the campaign and mislead the P&L.
Alibaba does not lack distribution. Taobao and Tmall (its core marketplaces), Alipay (its payment app), and Alibaba Cloud can put any AI offer in front of consumers and companies. What those channels cannot manufacture is a reason to stay when ByteDance’s Doubao, Tencent’s WorkBuddy, and free utilities already sit on the same phone. Consumer products that built paid bases on workflow value rarely needed to introduce themselves at one cent. Choosing that price reads as urgency around sampling, not confidence that the product pulls unassisted.
Enterprise demand is the clearer ledger line. AI-related cloud and computing revenue from outside customers has continued to rise at a strong pace in recent reported periods, through infrastructure, API use, and tailored deployments. Budgets and procurement paths already exist.
Consumer software is messier. People will try an agent that claims to finish a file. They will not automatically renew at 28 yuan a month—or at annual tiers that climb from a few hundred yuan toward the mid-four figures depending on plan—unless the tool becomes part of how work gets done. Alibaba’s paid Qwen Office plans, introduced around August, were a bet on that path. The livestream was a bet that first contact can be bought cheaply during Double 11, China’s peak online shopping period, when attention is already for sale.
Cheap contact has a cost of its own. Inference is not free. A wave of trial users who click hard and churn leaves cloud teams with the bill and growth teams with a vanity spike. The metrics that matter after the host signs off are narrower: active use through the trial, conversion at full price, upgrades into higher tiers, and revenue per user against token burn. Rivals need not match a one-cent offer; they only need to be good enough that the sampled user never returns.

Festival theater can mint accounts by the tens of thousands. Habits and margins are still earned after the slogan drops off the screen.
