主流 App 争相塞入用户没要的 AI 功能:模型价格下降、API 集成常态化,竞争压力成主要推手

Apps Race to Add AI Features Users Did Not Request

NextFin News — Open a mainstream app in 2026 and intelligence often announces itself before anything else. An icon sits beside search. A side panel offers to write, summarize, or decide. In some products the assistant occupies the center of the bottom navigation, where the home button used to be.

People encounter AI more frequently inside ordinary software than inside dedicated chat products. Aggregate usage data point the same way: features embedded in existing apps are gaining sessions and time faster than independent AI apps. Irritation is rising in parallel. When every surface grows a helper, the question stops being whether AI exists and becomes why it must appear here, in this form, right now.

The tension is structural. For many tasks the old path—search, scroll, tap—still works. For many product teams, leaving that path untouched feels like a career risk.

Companies add AI for two unequal reasons. The optimistic case is a wider front door. A short conversation can capture intent before a search query hardens. Guided questions can narrow budget, taste, and constraints in ways a blank box does not. Any new route into a catalog or feed can move traffic. The sharper case is competitive optics. When rivals advertise writing help, smarter search, or automated guidance, absence reads as neglect. Pressure moves from executives to product owners until something visible lands on the roadmap.

Cost no longer blocks the impulse. Model prices have fallen. API integration is routine. A team does not need to train a frontier system to put a chat widget into production. Experimentation became cheap; imitation became cheaper.

Users experience the results unevenly. Some additions are easy to ignore. Others intrude. Summaries that keep regenerating push real links down the page. Service flows bury the path to a human agent. Voice layers activate when no one spoke. People who once could simply decline to install a chatbot now find similar capability woven into software they need for messaging, shopping, or work. What many resist is not capability itself. It is the loss of a clean choice—and the sense that the previous workflow was clearer.

Quality follows design depth. Assistants that can see a company’s real inventory, history, and constraints sometimes reduce friction. Generic chat layers often fail at ordinary jobs: organizing a library, matching on-screen context, or answering with the precision the old filters already provided. When the new path does not beat the old one, and especially when it adds learning cost, users treat it as decoration.

Teams are learning this in public. Some run tight gray releases they can kill quickly. Others launch separate AI products so early criticism never touches the main app. A few leave a quiet entry in a corner so the product is not empty when models and internal data improve. A minority still ask harder questions before launch: whether users need the feature, whether the company can win with it, and whether the economics close. Many accept a weaker standard—ship a visible capability first, refine later.

Further out, the layout may invert. Instead of every app carrying its own assistant, a general agent may call apps as tools. Until then the market sits in an awkward middle. Users keep meeting intelligence they did not request. Companies keep shipping intelligence they cannot easily skip. Both sides are still sorting which insertions earn a permanent place—and which ones existed mainly because everyone else’s product already had one.
